Saturday, November 17 - Rock-A-billy Shake-Up w. Tennessee Voodoo Coupe & The Hellbent Rockers, plus DJ's Rockin Dave Faris & EvilPainClown
Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 1:13PM
Fire up your hot-rods, and tie up your brothel creepers, because rockabilly is coming back to 3030, with the second instalment of our Rock-A-Billy Shake-Up! We've got two bands and two DJ's, and if you were at the last one that we did, you know that you are in for a heck of a time.
Getting the live action underway will be Hamilton's rockabilly kings, The HellBent Rockers. This high energy quartet have become regulars on the live circuit in Southern Ontario, and their recent "Rockabilly vs. Swing" shows have kept dancefloors packed! Comprised of seasoned players from the Hamilton music scene (including former members of The Shock Rockets, Crawl Daddy, and the Rattlin' Bones), The Hellbent Rockers' potent mix of rockabilly and '50s rock 'n' roll is played loud, fast, and out of control.
Headlining this charged-up live double bill are 100 proof reckless hillbilly jive cats Tennessee Voodoo Coupe, primed to take the stage and rock it up in their usual high-spirited fashion. The Toronto-based 4-piece is fronted by the infamous Big Rude Jake on guitar and mic, and features Steve Good on standup bass, Stevie "Six-String" Abrams on guitar and lap steel, and Donny Decouchay (formerly with The Razorbacks) pounding out the backbeat. With this classic rockabilly arrangement, TVC tackle a broad mix of music, leaning heavily on early rockabilly, country, swing and ’40s jump blues, along with a growing repertoire of originals. TVC has been busy giving its live set a custom overhaul, and fine-tuning new material in anticipation of its upcoming appearance at the annual Viva Las Vegas rockabilly weekender in early 2013. Get a preview at the Shake-up before TVC hits the road at top speed!
DJ's Dave Faris & EvilPainClown
DJ Rockin' Dave Faris and DJ Evilpainclown keep the 3030's turntables busy, spinning an unruly mix of revved-up rockabilly, vintage rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, and crazed novelty cuts throughout the evening. DJ Rockin' Dave Faris launched the Rock-A-Billy Shake-up series in 2010, and is also the resident DJ at the East End Rockabilly Riot events, as well as a regular guest host on CIUT 89.5 FM. DJ Evilpainclown (aka DJ Johnny for you veterans of the scene!) has been stirring up trouble behind the decks for a number of years, and was a DJ and live music promoter as part of John and Jenny's Rock 'n' Roll Party for almost a decade. Expect some floor stompin' rockabilly boogie and hillbilly rock all night long!
